Well I'm in Spain! It's nice, but before I start let's go back to where I left off last time. Our plane last night landed early and that was fun. Customs was a joke! We gave them our passports, they stamped them and gave them right back without any questions at all. We had to wait a little bit for our bags, but we got those and went to find Jessica. She wasn't there, so we sat down and waited and were entertained by the gayest man I have ever seen. He had one blue jeans that had white lines on them, and a blue/green shirt that had no sleeves. His hair was in braids and he had the funniest walk. He was doing spirit fingers, dancing, twirling... all by himself. Just walking back and forth dancing. We watched him the whole time, and we got the biggest kick out of it.
So then Jessica came with her friend Nils. Oh Nils. Jessica is really nice, I love Kathleen's friends! She and Kathleen have been friends since they were in 3rd grade. Nils came with Jessica because he has a car, so I was in a car for the first time since coming to England. I was more than amused. So in this car, going so fast, because Spain drivers put Massachusetts drivers to shame. It is okay to run red lights in Spain... no joke. They drive so fast and anything goes. So I got my first view of Spain from the car... what I saw is nice. It's a good mix of Spanish culture and then a Foot Locker and Burger King. One thing I loved was a castle by the side of the road... um ok. I was in heaven. I'll give a more complete description of Spain when I see it in the daylight.
We saw Jessica's apartment, and then Nil's, where Cassie and I are staying. It's like a 25 minute walk from where Kathleen and Amaya are, they are with Jessica. As soon as we got there, we went out for drinks, and two Mexican kids went with us. They are nice, not what I am use to when I think of Mexico, they could have been from anywhere. This is not their first time studying somewhere other than Mexico either. Nil is from Germany, Hamburg to be exact. He's an interesting guy, he was talking about Germany and how they have no pride, and teachers in school say that they should be sad to be from Germany. That is hard for me to understand because in America we have so much pride for our country.
Of course then there is the kid from Quebec who is Nil's room mate. So he's a hockey player, and thinks Alexander Ovachkin is a gift from God. He made me watch a video on the guy, and all his cool goals. I said he was good, but I put him in the same sentence with Sidney Crosby, and yeah that wasn't a smart idea. Seriously though, Ovachkin is good, but I'll take Peter Forsberg, Milan Hejduk or Marek Svatos any day of the week, it doesn't matter which one. They are just as flashy as Ovachkin. We did talk about something other than hockey surprisingly... he said that he likes Spain but he should have gone to Germany because the educational system is more what he wanted, and better overall. Spain's educational system is not that good. Um interesting..
Okay well I'll write again, Kathleen and Amaya should be here soon and then we are off for our first day in Valencia!
