So I was up at 8am, showered, dressed and at Salisbury's by 8:45am. I got supplies for breakfast, hit up the bakery and got some yummy looking donuts, and then I went home to wait for them. We agreed on like 9:30am for them to come home. They were a no show. I watched some Hogans, had my own breakfast, waited, went to Waitrose, waited, and then decided to go to their hotel. I walked over at like 11:00am, and on the way MK called saying they forgot to set an alarm and just woke up. They slept in on their first day in England??? Um ok. So they got ready, and then we went into London. Mom and MK have been to London before, but it was Jay's first time. We went to Westminster Abbey after walking over from Waterloo. We stopped to admire Big Ben and the London Eye. Westminster Abbey is WOW! it is so nice inside, so old and beautiful! I loved looking at the different tombs, there was a knight buried there from like the 13th century. Different kings are buried there too, the two princes murdered at the Tower, Mary, Elizabeth, and of course my favorite the authors. Some just have memorials, but it was cool to see a lot of the authors that I just read this past semester like George Eliot, the Bronte sisters, Thomas Hardy, and Dickens. There is a tomb for the unknown soldiers, and one of the tombs mentioned Massachusetts! It was an awesome experience seeing all of it, and I loved it. I should go back one day, maybe with Elyse.
So we walked down to Trafalgar Square, but then we got on the Underground to go to Hyde Park because we went to the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch/dinner. I got a salad and steak, and it was just so good. Miss steak. I will probably say this a lot, but I did have a fun day, it was so awesome to be with Mom. I'm a really independent person, but I do miss my parents, I mean how can you not?
So after eating we walked to Buckingham Palace, back to Trafalgar Square, up to Pic Circus, where we stopped and got some tea and scones. We went to Leicester Square, and then on the Underground to go to Kings Cross. They wanted to see Platform 9 3/4, so we did, and of course pictures were taken. We went down to Tower Hill after that, and did the Queens Walk. I told them before we started that it was a long walk along the Thames, and I have only done it once, but if they wanted to, there was a lot to see. They wanted to do it. The Queens Walk is from Tower Bridge to the Eye. I think it goes farther, but that is what I have done, and that is a long walk. We did see some neat stuff on the way like there was a sign saying that here is the spot where Nancy from Oliver Twist was murdered, Francis Drake's ship which is still in the water, the Clink Prison, and an old church where Shakespeare once went. Mom was glowing, she really did have a good time finding all of these things though it was a tiring walk. By the time we got to the Globe, they were tired, but we still had like 20 minutes of walking. I warned them. I like the Queens Walk, it's mostly right along the Thames, and it's a peaceful walk, long but peaceful. If you do it at night, then you encounter the dark alleys, which I think Mom liked the most. MK was creeped out by them, but Mom was like a kid in a candy store. It was really awesome.
By the time we made it to Waterloo it was like 11pm. We got off at Hampton Wick and they walked me back to the Bridge House, and assuring me that they would make it to breakfast tomorrow, they left. We were going to Bath and Stonehenge the next day.
