Day 5: Oxford

Oh Oxford. So we split up today. MK did stuff in London, Jay slept and then went into London, Monica stayed at the Bridge House, and Mom and I went into Oxford. I had suggested long ago that we go to Oxford, because I knew Mom would love it. She wouldn't love it because of The Eagle and Child, or because it was Tolkien's home, but I knew she would appreciate the old buildings, and the beauty that is Oxford. I was right.

So we got to Oxford around 2pm, and we went right to The Eagle and Child to get food because we were both hungry and it started down pouring. The weather had been pretty good for their trip, so I knew it had to happen. But while it rained, we sat in The Eagle and Child and it was all good. On the way though, I pointed out the Radcliffe Camera, and pointed out different streets that Tolkien had houses on. I think Mom enjoyed The Eagle and Child though, it's a really nice pub, full of history, and there are a lot of pictures on the wall of Tolkien and Lewis. I love every time I go into the pub.

Thankfully by the time we were done eating, it had basically stopped raining, so I took Mom past Monica's college St. Peters, past Carfax Tower, and down to Christ Church. Well before we reached Christ Church, we got distracted by a side street. I thought it lead to the dorm that has a really cool old building next to it, but I was wrong. But it was fun though, because Mom loves side streets, and we saw old buildings, and a wall that has been there forever. Our distraction was fun, and we ended up by Merton College, where Tolkien did a fellowship. So back on High Street, I pointed out other stuff, and then we went back to a shop that sells Oxford clothes, and Mom got MK and Jay tee shirts, and I got a sweatshirt that says St. Peters. I always told Monica that I would get a sweatshirt supporting her college, and I did. Not sure what she really thinks of it, if I'm overstepping the boundaries, because she did say that only students who go to the college get these sweatshirts, but I think of it as supporting that college. Whatever, I like it, and it's comfortable.

After that we went to a pub, got some tea, and then I took her to Christ Church College where they filmed parts of Harry Potter. We couldn't go in or anything, but I showed it to her, and to Old Tom, the clock tower. We stopped at a church across the street where there was some really old graves, and we tried to read them. Didn't work so well. Oh well. After that we went home, we met up with MK at Victoria, and caught a train home. We got home around 9ish, met up with Jay and Monica and had dinner along the Thames.

It was an awesome day, I really was glad that I got to show Mom Oxford. It was awesome, just the two of us. I've said this before, but I do miss Mom and Dad, and was glad that it was just the two of us. MK and Jay would not appreciate Oxford as much, they don't care for old building as much as Mom and I do!
